Heterogeneous Sensor Networks
Wireless sensor networks have a significant impact on our daily lives, with applications in target tracking, intelligent homes, environment monitoring, disaster rescuing, self-touring systems, and home health care. According to different application requirements, sensors with various capabilities are deployed. Due to asymmetric and lossy links in heterogeneous sensor networks, we develop new routing methods to deliver messages efficiently to the destination with assured deliver rate at a low cost.

Delay Tolerant Networks
Delay tolerant networks is a type of wireless mobile networks that does not guarantee the existence of a path between a source and a destination at any time. Routing poses unique challenges due to the uncertainty and time-varying nature of network connectivity in delay tolerant networks. We explore novel information model and methods to guide the routing in the right direction. Our algorithms are tested using real-life traces.

Wireless Sensor Networks
Due to the low cost and capabilities of sensors, wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have tremendous potential for military and civilian applications. We work on localization, deployment, energy balancing, fault tolerance, mobility control, routing, privacy preserving, key management issues in wireless sensor networks.

Ad hoc Wireless Networks
An ad hoc wireless network is a special type of wireless networks in which a collection of mobile hosts with wireless network interfaces can form a termporary network, without the aid of any established infrastructure or centralized administration. It is especially useful in any place where the deployment of basestations is impossible or expensive such as disaster rescues, battlefields, dangerous environment, etc. Communication in ad hoc wireless networks poses special challenges because of low bandwidth, mobility of hosts, and limitation of power. We develop scalable and energy-efficient broadcast and data replication algorithms in this environment.
