CS 7309 - Professional Development of Doctoral Assistants

Course Description:

This course is designed to equip the doctoral students with skills and an understanding of the proper procedures to be effective doctoral instructional and teaching assistants. This course does not earn graduate credit and is graded on a credit (CR), progress (PR), no-credit (F) basis.

Course Objectives:

The students will be able to:

  • employ a variety of instructional techniques

  • use the technical skills needed to support instructional and laboratory functions

  • summarize the legal responsibilities of instructional assistants

  • apply professional and academic ethics

  • demonstrate the communication and interpersonal skills needed to work with students

  • describe the responsibilities of laboratory instructors and assistants

  • implement laboratory management procedures

  • utilize the essentials of quality teaching, including critical thinking and holistic inquiry

  • create lecture materials
