CS Scholarship

CS-Specific Scholarship Information

Through endowments and other funding sources, the Department of Computer Science plans to award merit scholarships to excellent and qualified undergraduate and graduate students who apply through the BOSS system and comply with the following requirements.

The scholarships are in the amount of $500 per award for undergraduate students and $1000 per award for graduate students. A student can obtain only one award per academic year.

Preference will be given to students with a strong record of scholarly and research activities and achievements as evidenced by a high GPA (general and computer science specific) and documented research efforts such as an independent study, thesis, or dissertation and published/submitted papers.

Application Requirements:

Undergraduate students

  • Major in CS
  • Obtain at least one recommendation letter from a current CS faculty member (CS faculty members are listed on the department website).
  • Have a Texas State GPA of 3.0 or above and a Texas State CS GPA of 3.25 or above.
  • Must have completed at least 9 CS credit hours at Texas State University.
  • Clearly describe the strong record of scholarly and research activities and achievements on the first page of the mandatory college essay before answering the essay prompt.

Graduate students

  • Major in CS
  • Obtain at least one recommendation letter from a current CS faculty member (CS faculty members are listed on the department website).
  • Have a Texas State GPA of 3.5 or above.
  • Clearly describe the strong record of scholarly and research activities and achievements on the first page of the mandatory college essay before answering the essay prompt.
  • Preference will be given to students with a record of research activities at Texas State.

Note: The deadline for applications might vary by funding source. The deadline for most applications is February 1, 2020. If you have already applied for a scholarship, please make sure that it complies with the requirements described above. Otherwise, please reapply:
