Abstract:

Eye movements exhibit natural variance based on a variety of factors, some of which are participant-specific and cannot be easily reproduced by a typical experimental setup (e.g. fatigue, mood). This can introduce uncertainty into investigations that require these factors to be standardized within participants. Capturing eye movement data using two eye trackers simultaneously minimizes this variance, and thus drives powerful investigations. This study proposes and evaluates a strategy for capturing gaze data in two eye trackers simultaneously. We introduce a new paired dataset containing eye movements from SR Research’s EyeLink and AdHawk Microsystems’ MindLink. We assess the efficacy of our data collection strategy by observing how the MindLink’s eye movement signal quality differs when it is used alone versus in a paired setting.
