Computer Science Industrial Advisory Board Scholarship

The Department of Computer Science at Texas State University created an Industrial Advisory Board comprised of members of the industry, and the department holds meetings every year striving for the betterment of the department’s academic programs in meeting the needs of the industry. In 1995, the IAB members established a scholarship fund for a computer science student to work for the IAB in meeting industry and department-related needs, such as creating databases. Contributions were received from IAB members to establish a fund to provide scholarship and financial assistance for students attending Texas State University. In spring 2007, the IAB members voted to use this scholarship account to fund undergraduate research assistants.

Undergraduate student pursuing BA or BS in Computer Science

3.00 or higher Texas State GPA

Computer Science Scholarship

Funds distributed from this endowment shall be used to make awards possible for undergraduate and graduate students in the Computer Science Department.

Computer Science Student Scholarship

Purpose: To provide financial assistance for students in the Department of Computer Science and Texas State University for the promotion of academic excellence.

Don and Helen Cude Computer Science Endowed Scholarship

Purpose: To honor Don Cude, alumnus and former mathematics professor and chairman at then Southwest Texas State University, and his wife, Helen Ebeling Cude, both of whom were public school teachers; to reward outstanding students in the fields of mathematics and computer science. This specific scholarship is for Computer Science students.

 

Criteria for selection:

Computer Science major

Must not have previously received an award from this endowment

Priority to students teaching computer science teacher certification

Full-time enrollment

Good standing with the university

3.00 Texas State GPA or higher

Awards will be made on the basis of academic merit, leadership, and intellectual promise

Harold Sellars Endowment

The Harold Sellars Scholarship is a merit-based scholarship. The recipients are chosen by the Department of Computer Science Scholarship Committee.

 

Requirements:

Students must have a Texas State GPA of 3.50 or higher and at least 15 hours of coursework completed in Computer Science.

Jeffrey A. Slomka Memorial Scholarship in Computer Science

In 2007, Jeffrey Slomka, ABD, a dedicated professor passed away unexpectedly. He joined the Texas State faculty in 1985 and was tenured in 1992. A valued teacher and colleague, Mr. Slomka was a three-time recipient of the Computer Science Alpha Chi National Honor Society’s “Favorite Teacher” award. In addition to his teaching duties, Mr. Slomka was a teacher education advisor and an undergraduate student advisor for the department. He was one of the principal investigators for the National Science Foundation-funded La Costa grade, a three-year informal IT education program that addressed the technical, social, and economic needs of students in give South Texas high schools.

 

Contributions were received from friends, colleagues, and family to honor Jeffrey Slomka by establishing a fund to provide scholarship and financial assistance for students attending Texas State University.

Richard and Nan Garcia Endowed Scholarship

The Richard and Nan Garcia Endowed Scholarship is a one-time award for undergraduate students with outstanding academic credentials. This scholarship is a highly competitive award given to candidates who are enrolled full-time and have a 3.0 or higher Texas State GPA. Priority is given to students who are veterans, are first-generation and studying Criminal Justice, as well as other majors outlined below.

 

Recipients of this award on average have an overall Texas State GPA of 3.0 or higher. To compete for this scholarship, a student must meet the following criteria:

  • Preference for the recipient to be a first-generation college student
  • Preference given to the following areas of study: Criminal Justice, Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Engineering Technology, Finance and Accounting.
  • Must be a full -time student in good standing at Texas State University
  • Must have a Texas State GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Preference to students interested in a career in law enforcement; and
  • Preference given to students who are veterans.
